Water from air for the world

Sanakvo Foundation Water Project deserves your support

Imagine a world in which clean, safe drinking water flows freely to every corner of the globe – where no child falls ill and dies from contaminated water, and arid lands bloom with life. This isn’t a distant dream; it’s a tangible reality within reach, thanks to the groundbreaking research and development work done by Dr. Pavel Lehky.

Besides his accomplishments as a postdoctoral researcher at the lab of Nobel Prize Winner Prof. Edmund H. Fischer’s at the University of Washington in Seattle, Dr. Lehky is also the author of numerous patents in chemical synthesis, biotechnological processes, and laboratory instrumentation. Two of his patents led to the industrial biotechnological production of L-carnitine.

Global Challenge – Practical Solution

The numbers are staggering: 1.5 billion people lack access to quality drinking water, and every eight seconds, a child succumbs to waterborne illness. In arid regions, where rainfall is scarce, traditional solutions like seawater desalination or sprawling pipe networks fall short. These methods demand massive investments, fossil fuel energy, and complex infrastructure—leaving inland communities high and dry. Distribution costs can soar tenfold beyond production, and leaky pipes often waste or contaminate the precious resource before it reaches those in need. The Water from Air Project, initiated by the Sanakvo Foundation, offers a radical alternative: a decentralized, low-cost, eco-friendly system that harvests water directly from the air we breathe.

Untapped Ocean Above Us

Here’s a mind-blowing fact: the air around us holds an ocean of water vapor – an unlimited, renewable resource waiting to be tapped. A single cubic kilometer of air, even in the parched Sahara with just 30% humidity, contains enough water to fill a river 1,000 meters long, 3 meters wide, and 1 meter deep. That’s 3 million liters – enough to sustain a million people for a day. Globally, our atmosphere harbors ten times more water than all the planet’s rivers combined, constantly replenished by ocean winds. The Sanakvo Water Project unlocks this hidden treasure with an ingenious approach that requires no pipes, no fossil fuels, and no million-dollar plants.

A Sweet Solution: Glycerol’s Magic

At the heart of this innovation lies glycerol – a natural, edible byproduct of biofuel production, so abundant it’s practically free. This hygroscopic marvel soaks up water vapor from the air like a sponge, binding more than its own weight under optimal conditions, silently collecting water as breezes pass through. In just 24 hours, a 120-square-meter setup can harvest 250 liters – enough for a small village. No heavy pumps, no power plants needed – just gravity and gentle currents.

But the magic doesn’t stop there. The water-rich glycerol flows into a “sandwich” device, where sunlight heats it gently, distilling and releasing pure water vapor from the glycerol through a special membrane. This vapor condenses into pristine, salt-free distilled water, ready for consumption and irrigation. It’s a closed-loop system: the glycerol is reused, the process repeats, and not a drop of fossil fuel is burned. Spills? No problem—glycerol is biodegradable, turning into carbon dioxide and water with the next rain, nourishing the soil rather than poisoning it.

Water is life.

Tested and patented in 80 countries

The Sanakvo Foundation’s achievement of securing patents for its innovative Water from Air technology in 80 countries marks a significant milestone in the global effort to address water scarcity. This technology, which extracts potable water directly from the atmosphere, showcases a groundbreaking approach to providing clean drinking water in regions where traditional sources are limited or contaminated. By obtaining patents across such a wide range of nations, the Sanakvo Foundation not only protects its intellectual property but also positions itself to deploy this life-changing solution on an international scale. This extensive patent coverage reflects the foundation’s commitment to ensuring that its technology can be safeguarded and potentially scaled to benefit millions, particularly in water-stressed areas. The success of this initiative underscores the power of innovative engineering paired with a strategic vision for global impact.

Why This Matter & Why You Should Care

The Sanakvo Water Project isn’t just a gadget; it’s a lifeline for many. It’s simple enough for anyone to build and maintain with locally available materials – think fabric, plastic tubing, and a bit of ingenuity. The technology is safe, affordable, and scalable, delivering water where it’s needed most: remote villages, drought-stricken farms, and even urban rooftops. For drinking, it’s a game-changer – eliminating deadly chemical and bacterial threats. For agriculture, it’s a miracle – turning barren lands into fertile fields with water purer than rain.

Imagine the impact: a single square meter of this water from air system produces 5 liters daily, equivalent to 1,825 mm of annual rainfall—more than enough to grow crops in places where rain rarely falls. In soilless hydroponics, it slashes water use by 95%, yielding bumper harvests in deserts. And here’s the kicker: this technology could cool the planet. By greening vast arid regions, we reflect sunlight, trap moisture, and fight desertification – all while feeding millions.
